Today there is a lot of talk about being disruptive in life and business, about breaking the status quo or reinventing the rules to become a salmon that dares to swim against the current. Doing things differently can do just that - make a difference.

We live in a world of constant consumption where new needs are created for us and we are encouraged to be active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have become accustomed to living with entertainment and distractions that in many cases have turned into necessities so as not to feel empty when it seems that there is nothing to be done.

Most of us have been or are still victims of the tyranny of time. Today, in many different industries, such as fashion, education, tourism, gastronomy and health care, there are initiatives that aim to avoid contributing to this problem by instead searching for a solution through the so-called Slow movement.

It becomes necessary and very convenient for some to find a balance in order to avoid prioritizing time over energy, to ensure that our talent isn’t wasted and to escape from the inability to enjoy the present moment.

At the end of the day, regardless of what we do, all entrepreneurs and workers share, or should share, common goals: to improve the company, to be better every day, to enjoy the job to the fullest, and to offer society the best versions of ourselves.

The vast majority of companies have adapted to this situation and have adjusted their products and services to the chaotic agendas of a society that has too much to do, too much to choose from and too little time in which to do it all. Experiencing excessive speed, stress and intensity as a result of business operations are the viruses that almost nobody talks about. On the other hand, the need to mass produce, in the shortest time possible, puts quality control of many services and products at risk. This generates economic, personal and environmental problems and there is very little awareness today regarding these issues.

The obsession with boosting sales and reaching more customers has set the standard for business in recent years. Industrialization has even affected the way we consume our food, with most of it now coming canned or packaged. Being disruptive today means understanding that the market is made up of people and that the best way to generate value is no longer in the product, but in the service that we offer; it is no longer in the what but in the how.

Valuing a service that is calmer, healthier, more excellent, more humane, more memorable, more efficient, more streamlined... slower.
